Our inn sits in the heart of Osage County, the home of the Osage Nation just above the gateway to the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. The Million Dollar Inn is an Osage owned enterprise. It sits directly across the site and derives its name from the famous Million Dollar Elm on the Osage Nation campus. The Million Dollar Elm became famous and aquired its name because many oil deals involving millions of dollars with the Osages were made under that tree.
The house that has become the Million Dollar Inn was originally built in 1912 by the Tolson Family and has changed hands a number of times since that time. Cheryl Potts, an Osage Tribal member, and an original member of the Osage Nation Congress, is the most recent purchaser of the house. She set out to save it from certain ruin and has made numerous renovations to preserve the historical feel and grandeur of the home while adding modern fixtures and appliances in a way that does not detract from the home's original beauty. Moreover, she designed the renovations in a way that makes the house prefect for use as a bed and bath and ideal for use by the general public allowing everyone to enjoy the beauty of the home.
